Marriage is an important event in life. However, the bride from Uttar Pradesh, India did not hesitate to cancel the wedding as she learned that her future husband is not good at math.
Dumped after failing to do an addition
This rare story happened in the city of Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, India. An Indian bride made a decision that surprised everyone around her as she canceled her upcoming wedding. The reason was her fiancé could not do an extremely easy addition.
According to the local press, the groom went to the wedding venue to perform the necessary rituals. However, the bride unexpectedly makes a request to this man, forcing him to take a test. The bride asked the groom to add 15 and six, to which he replied 17.
The bride refused to perform the garland ceremony (a very important ritual in Indian weddings) and returned to her home.
The girl’s decision shocked relatives on both sides. However, no matter how much they tried to dissuade the girl, the Indian bride did not change her decision. She said she could not marry a man who did not have a minimum education, let alone good at math.
Praised by her family member
Local police had to intervene to arbitrate for both sides. They eventually declared this to be an arranged marriage between two families.
The bride’s cousin said the groom’s family intentionally concealed their son’s education. He might not even have gone to school.
“Even a first grader can answer this [the maths test],” he said.
The cousin expressed his frustration, saying that the groom’s family had deceived the bride’s family.
He also did not hide his admiration by praising his cousin for being brave when she dared to stand up and fight for happiness, despite the taboos according to traditional customs.
After all, the police couldn’t file a case either. The family of the bride and groom have come to a compromise to make a settlement. Both parties exchange gifts and betrothal received to each other. The wedding is officially canceled.
Many netizens agree with the bride because it’s hard to accept a spouse who lied right from the start.
