Harry and Meghan’s daughter name is Lilibet Diana
The full name of Harry and Meghan’s daughter is Lilibet “Lili” Diana Muntbatten-Windsor. She was born at a hospital in California where the couple resided. According to reports, the second child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived last Friday but it’s not until June 7 that she was introduced to the world.
When people know the name of Harry and Meghan’s daughter, many can’t help expressing their surprise as Lilibet is the family nickname of Queen Elizabeth II who is supposed to suffer from the controversial interview between the couple and Oprah Winfrey months ago.
The fact that Harry named his daughter after her great-grandmother and late grandmother should not be something strange. However, he and his wife just went through a tumultous time with the royal family after sharing rather negative stories about the RF members.
It was Meghan who revealed that someone in the family had concerns about the complexion of Prince Archie. And it’s Harry who publicly expressed his disappointment towards his father and brother in the interview.
Now when the couple named their daughter after Queen’s nickname, netizens are wondering the underlying reason for this: whether it is a sign of a healing relationship or something else?
Reasons why Harry and Meghan named their daughter Lilibet Diana
Immediately after the name was announced, people sought after close sources who could reveal why Harry and Meghan chose Lilibet Diana for naming their second child.
According to the BBC, Lilibet became the nickname of Queen Elizabeth II when she was a toddler. As she had difficulties pronouncing her full name Elizabeth, she often put it “Lilibet.” The royal family was familiar with the name since then.
If one uses the name Lilibet to refer to the Queen, it means he or she must be very close to Her Majesty. Prince Philip used to write that “Lilibet is the only thing in the world which is absolutely real to me.”
When naming their daughter Lilibet, Harry and Meghan must imply their relationship with their family in Buckingham Palace. It’s not just a pure tribute to their daughter’s great-grandmother but also a sign of an attempt to bond the relationship.
As for the middle name Diana, this is simply a tribute to the late mother of Harry.
On their social account, Harry and Meghan also shared their thoughts on the birth of Lilibet Diana:
“She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
Reaction from the Royal Family
The Buckingham Palace hasn’t had official announcements but close sources said Queen Elizabeth II was “delighted” at the birth of her 11th great-grandchild.
Like her brother, Lilibet Diana is unlikely to have a royal title. She is standing number 8 in line to the throne before Prince Andrew. She will become a princess when Prince Charles takes the throne.
Lilibet is recognized as both US and UK citizen.
