2 reasons why overworking is killing modern society

We are all familiar with overworking in such a time of global pandemics. And, the Japanese even have a term (Karoshi) for it as a plague that has been haunting the country for decades.

Overworking has been proved unproductive and stressful. The statistics tell all that. To be specific, the work productivity drops dramatically after 40h/week. Aside from that, working too much is detrimental to brain health.

Looking at the data provided by the World Health Organization which points out that there were up to 745 thousand people died from overworking, you might be startled by the fact that it was 29% increase compared to the year 2000.

Moreover, the BBC states research which shows that 55+ hours of work per week also means an increase of 35% the risk of stroke, 17% the risk of fatal heart disease.

So you know overworking is killing modern society but how? Let’s find out!

1. Long-term stress

Or Chronic stress. This wears your health out throughout the time until the body could no longer stand itself.

Mayo Clinic claims that it is cortisol and adrenaline in your veins that intensify the danger of depression, weight gain, heart disease, sleep problems, etc. On the other hand, a new study suggests women who work long hours are subjected to be more susceptible to depression compared to men. So in the times of Covid-19, a serious look at how we manage work/life time is crucial.
